BIG YANKとは BIG YANKは、1897年に創業したリライアンス マニュファクチュアリング カンパニーにより、1919年に設立されたアメリカのワークウェアブランドです。ワークシャツやデニム、カバーオールなどを製造し、第二次世界大戦後は米国内で高い人気を誇りました。頑丈で長持ちする作業着、国内製造にこだわった品質、そして労働者文化との結びつきが特徴です。 創業と黄金期（1919〜1940年代） BIG YANKは1919年、シカゴで生まれたアメリカの作業着ブランドです。丈夫で機能的なワークシャツやデニム、カバーオールは、働く人々の間でたちまち人気に。特に「ガチャポケ」と呼ばれる独自デザインのポケットは、特許にもなり、1933年のシカゴ万博でも紹介されました。1940年代には米海軍にも採用され、ブルーカラー層の定番ブランドとして定着しました。 消滅の時期（1980年代） しかし1980年代、海外生産の台頭や消費者の嗜好の変化により、BIG YANKは市場から姿を消しました。とはいえ、ヴィンテージ市場では今でも「ガチャポケ」や「ヤマポケ」のモデルが高く評価され、ブランドの精神は静かに受け継がれていました。 復活の軌跡（2012年〜） 2012年、アーカイヴニストの寺本欣児氏によってBIG YANKは再構築されました。当時の縫製技法やネームタグ、素材まで徹底的に再現し、現代の視点から復活。復刻モデルはプレミアムワークウェア市場で注目を集め、再び「本物の機能美」を提案しています。 現在、そして未来へ 現在のBIG YANKは、100年以上続くクラフトマンシップを大切にしながら、現代のライフスタイルに合わせた製品を展開。「100年使える一着」をコンセプトに、ガチャポケやヤマポケなど伝統的デザインを生かしつつ、新しい素材や工夫で再構築しています。過去の栄光を受け継ぎつつ、これからの100年を見据えたブランドとして歩みを進めています。
